Chocolate & Sheakspeare

Macbeth was a man so eager to rule a kingdom that he would kill his own best friend. Michele Ferrero was a man inspired by his dream to build an international “kingdom” of chocolate. Although one might not think to connect the two men, they have many connections in terms of ideology and personality. Macbeth rose to power by ruthlessly murdering any man, women, or child who stood in his way. He was one of the most vicious rulers in Shakespeare’s vast works of poetry, who knows what he could have accomplished if he had seen greater years on the throne than he did. Ferrero was not power hungry, and did not murder innocents. Instead, Ferrero used the power of negotiation and business to achieve his goals.

Ferrero and Macbeth had two different types of Kingdoms, and are two very different types of people. However, both these men were ambitious to create something that would influence the entire the world. Ferrero created a flavoured spread that was an affordable and luxurious at a time when chocolate was an expensive and hard to come by commodity. Ferrero's business associates described him as a “born entrepreneur” and recalled that they always knew that he would be incredibly successful in achieving perfection in his business. Similarly at the beginning of Macbeth, the witches describe how Macbeth will be King in Duncan's sted.

Macbeth are both men who acquired immense wealth through their unparalleled ambition in their respective fields. Although both men accomplished their initial goals, only one of them sustained their influence over their respective “kingdoms”. Macbeth was driven insane by his new found power and guilt, and was slain by Macduff. Ferrero nurtured his company and created a product that millions of people worldwide could love forever. Macbeth and Ferrero were two men whole had one common trait: ambition.
