How "The N-Word" Perpetuates Racism
The prevalence of the “N-word” in our culture is a destructive use of language. The use of this word, even disregarding its previous meanings and connotations, promotes a racial divide. We are dividing white people and black people by saying, “you can say the word, but you can’t.” When anyone uses the word it means that the entire past that this word has been through with us means nothing. If we revert to the mainstream use of the N-word, it means that the struggles our society and our country have been through for civil rights have meant nothing. This isn’t a matter of “if I can’t say it, no one can.” With this word, no one should want to say it, not because of social stigma, but because of what it means.
