Messy Writing

Whosever writing this is should be ashamed!
Her comma splices are everywhere.
Her independent clauses are connected by commas alone,
And the sentence runs on like a runaway train.
Her verbs are wedged into the wrong parts of sentences,
Her sentence’s meaning has been carelessly thrown on the floor.
Her subjects and verbs conflict beneath the ink,
And they bicker in unyielding disagreement.
Her capital letters are jammed into the sentence,
Her porcelain tea cup has been left to mean the country China.
Subjects are asleep, being acted upon by verbs,
Active voice being like an abandoned smelly old sock stuck to the wall.
Whosever writing this is should be ashamed!
Sally or Abby or Sophie or––
Huh? You say it’s mine? Oh, dear,
I knew it looked familiar!

Parody of Shel Silverstine’s "Messy Room" in which I replace criticism of messy parts a room with messy or grammatically incorrect aspects of writing.

  1. I loved your idea of relating messy parts of a room with incorrect grammar! The poem flowed really well. Nice job!
