The Meaning of Life

Ignorance is bliss. Abstract thought has made humans one of the most advanced species in the world. We have the ability to think logically and critically, yet we survive because of our ignorance just like most other species. We live for the things we enjoy but they are just diverting our attention from the inevitability of death. With the acknowledgement of our mortality at the front of our minds, how can anyone choose to keep living? What would be the purpose of life? As humans we have chosen to ignore this question because we know that the answer is that their is no purpose. You’d think that we would’ve realized by now that what we do now won’t matter once we’re dead, but this introduces the idea of the afterlife. What if what we do now affects us once we're dead. We hope that we will still be conscious after we die and continue to be conscious for a long time afterwards, yet there exists apeirophobia. The idea behind our will to live can be turned into one of our greatest fears.

  1. This is quite a horrifying thought to believe that life is truly meaningless. But is there any harm in creating a purpose for your life?

  2. Whilst I agree with what u are saying, it's still a little depressing. We are lucky that people do try to find purpose in their lives, for if not we would probably be much worse off as a society

  3. There only so,e things in the world that are constant and Parth has recognized that death is one of them. A meaning to life is subjective, so in essence people may believe they have one or not for several purposes.
