A Lost Modifier

The modifier leaps
across the sentence
and floats down
till it hits the full stop.
It then dips its head
into the center of the sentence
and it dares to change its meaning.

But the modifier that stalks
between two unknown words
can seldom see his beloved friends
through his bars of confusion
its meaning has changed
it's changed the sentence
so it opens his vowels to sing.

The caged modifier sings
with a fearful cry
of meaning forgotten
but longed for still
and his tune is still heard
from across the sentence
for the caged modifier
sings for the writer.

The caged modifier thinks about the writer
and that meaning can be revived
and the writer will find its way
and the writer will save the sentence.

The poem is a parody of "The Caged Bird Sings" describing the life of a modifier that was misplaced.
Now lost in the sentence, the writer will move the modifier.
