You can see how a society or community treats different controversial topics by what derogatory slurs people of different races and genders are called and the connotation they have. Slurs, often words never viewed in a negative way before, are made into derogatory terms that dramatically impact a group of people. What makes these new found insults so powerful are the negative views and events associated with them. The constant use of gay and the n-word in casual conversation perpetuates harmful stereotypes everyday.
